Billing & Usage v1.0.0

Learn about SLYD's billing system, understand your costs, and manage your usage effectively.

Billing Overview

SLYD offers transparent, usage-based billing to ensure you only pay for the resources you actually use. The platform provides detailed tracking, notifications, and cost management tools to help you optimize your spending and stay within budget.

Billing Model

The SLYD billing model combines both pay-as-you-go and reservation-based approaches:

Pay As You Go

Pay only for the resources you consume, with pricing calculated based on:

  • Compute instances billed by the hour (partial hours rounded to the nearest minute)
  • Storage billed per GB-month (always charged, even for stopped instances)
  • Data transfer billed per GB (free for inbound traffic)
  • Application licenses (if applicable)
Best for variable or unpredictable workloads

Rental Commitments

Commit to longer rental periods in exchange for discounted rates:

  • Daily commitments: 5% discount
  • Weekly commitments: 10% discount
  • Monthly commitments: 20% discount
  • Quarterly commitments: 30% discount
Best for predictable, consistent workloads

Cost Optimization Recommendations

Receive AI-powered suggestions from Benson AI to reduce unnecessary spending.

Right-sizing Opportunities

"Your Standard-4 instance 'web-server-prod3' has been running at less than 20% CPU utilization for the past 30 days. Consider downsizing to a Standard-2 instance to save approximately $27.50 per month."

Scheduling Suggestions

"Your development instances are regularly active during nights and weekends but show minimal activity. Setting up an automatic shutdown schedule could save approximately $120 per month."

Recommendations are tailored to your specific usage patterns and improve over time as Benson learns from your environment.

Billing Cycles & Payments

SLYD uses a monthly billing cycle with multiple payment options:

Billing Cycle

  • Billing cycles run from the 1st to the last day of each month
  • Invoices are generated on the 1st day of each month for the previous month's usage
  • Payment is due within 15 days of invoice generation
  • Pre-paid commitments (monthly, quarterly) are billed at the start of the commitment period
New accounts may require a payment method on file before resources can be provisioned.

Billing Best Practices

Follow these recommendations to optimize your costs and manage your billing effectively:

Implement a Tagging Strategy

  • Develop a consistent tagging schema before deploying resources
  • Use automation to ensure all resources are properly tagged
  • Consider making key tags mandatory for all resources
  • Review and update tags regularly as your organizational structure evolves

Plan Resource Lifecycles

  • Schedule non-production instances to shut down during off-hours
  • Set expiration dates for temporary resources
  • Use commitment-based pricing for long-term, stable workloads
  • Regularly review and clean up unused or abandoned resources

Set Up Cost Controls

  • Create budgets with appropriate notification thresholds
  • Implement resource quotas for teams and projects
  • Use role-based access control to limit who can provision expensive resources
  • Consider implementing approval workflows for high-cost resources

Leverage Benson AI

  • Review and act on cost optimization recommendations
  • Ask Benson to analyze specific cost patterns or anomalies
  • Use Benson for guidance on choosing the most cost-effective resources
  • Schedule regular cost review sessions with Benson's assistance
Important Billing Considerations
  • Storage costs continue even when instances are stopped (but not when terminated)
  • Early termination of commitment-based resources may incur fees
  • Some regions may have higher base pricing than others
  • Marketplace applications may have their own licensing terms and costs
